The Valley of Peace cricket season got off to a flyer with a convincing win against our southern friends from Millbrook Cricket Club. It was an overcast, mostly still – but very pleasant day at the Valley with sliced ham and a fine selection of relishes for lunch. Millbrook battled through to 125 all out. Russell McGregor took 3-22 off 6 and Hayden Ryan 3-13 off 8. A sharp direct hit run-out by Nick Thomas contributed to an impressive first half of the game by the  Valley.

Additionally, lunch was dominated by the Valley with Stuart Spalding winning a bottle of gin, a bottle of wine and a pack of venison … don’t ask where it came from. The same Australian went on to score 51 very well composed not out runs and batted alongside Ben Rogers (43) to bring the Valley home.

It was a most enjoyable day and a small group enjoyed dinner out later in the evening. The VoP will travel to Millbrook later in the season for the return match.
