CRACK OPEN THE CHAMPAGNE –THE VALLEY HAVE HAD THEIR FIRST WIN OF THE SEASON, AGAINST TEAM BOON (but only just!!!!)

After inserting the opposition The Valley of Peace got off to the best possible start by getting a crucial wicket in the first over, but consistent batting against a well balanced Valley attack saw Team Boon (a team with an iconic history in Christchurch Club Cricket) score a respectable 188, their captain Scott Bermingham scoring an attractive 50 and Sam Rendall a hard-hitting 46. Kade Atkinson 3/18  and captain Dayle Eathorne 2/22 were the most successful of the Valley’s attack.

Aided by a solid opening partnership between Hugo Davison ( a late, late replacement) and Tim Yardley, the home team looked on track for a comfortable victory, but with 3 run-outs the game quickly balanced up and went down to the wire, with the Valley winning with 2 balls to spare. The backbone of the innings came from a debutant Mike McArdle, who batted with much composure in scoring 60.

A terrific day’s cricket played in a most enjoyable and competitive spirit. Team Boon proved to be an excellent addition to the Valleys fixture list.
