( D.S. Bank’s  final innings)

After——  years of cricket Derek Banks has now retired from the game after the match against the Honest Trundlers. He will be sorely missed on the field but continues  invaluable contribution to the Club behind the scenes.

It was appropriate for Derek’s last game that we should have stunning sunny weather and a wonderful  opposition in the Honest Trundlers who, like us, are very mindful of the superb contribution Derek has made to cricket and the Valley over many, many years.

The Trundlers got off to a good start with D Frisby 51 and later in the innings H Herborn 46  with a total of 214 for 7 wickets. Notwithstanding a masterful opening knock of  39 from D Banks (not to mention his earlier belting catch in the deep) it looked like it  would be the Trundlers’ day. Enter G Olsen 38 and H Cochran 40 who lifted the Valley to 215 for 8 and a hard fought win ..

Our special thanks to Stuart Spalding and his team who are now in their 10th year of touring to New Zealand. They are great sports and a pleasure to play against . Their fixture at the Valley is extremely popular and it is not uncommon for us to have 11 reserves for this match.

The teams and partners enjoyed a meal together in the evening as is our custom before the Trundlers  journey back home . We look forward to next season and seeing you all back at the Valley in fine form in pursuit of the ANZAC Trophy.
